This week was one of seeing the transforming power of love, in home visits, at the senior center, with children at the Boys and Girls Club, and amidst the team.
When our team went to the boys and girls club–nails being painted, games being played, music shared, dancing together and playing soccer conveyed our desire to be with these children. Many spend every afternoon here, from 3-8pm, and it was heartbreaking to see how hungry they are for attention in the midst of their poverty. The time and attention we share never feels like enough, and yet it is more than enough. All we can do is offer our time. This week, this month, have you shared your time with someone who is hungry for attention? Have you spread a smile and prayers of love?
This week, one of our participants this week heard a confirmation of her calling to become a nurse! During a visit at a senior center, she had a chance to see a seventy year old man caring for his 92 year old mom with more love than she's ever seen. God brought her closer to the team in a week than in ten years to some people back home.
Our team of 20 from 12 different states was awesome, and brought a great deal of energy to all the ministry opportunities we had: plaza evangelism, beach clean-up, painting and cleaning at the church, as well as those descrbed above. We enjoyed praying with and for those we met, and experiencing and connecting with the Puerto Rican people, culture, and music (oh, and of course the food!).
